D.K. Mikhalenok

Certain fields of activity of T.I. Vyazemsky, Doctor of Medicine, bibliophile and founder of the Karadag Scientific Station are discussed. T.I. Vyasemsky believed that culture should be the base of thesociety development. He proposed series of propedeutic measures against alcohol dependence that arestill important. T.I. Vyazemsky took part in the activity of the Russian Balneological Society inPyatigorsk City. His research in the field of electrotherapy remains relevant till present days. He alsofound important historical fact – he identified that the year of foundation of the Caucasian MineralWaters was 1803, but not 1798. This date is totally recognized now but the name of its founderT.I. Vyazemsky is forgotten. He collected great number of books in various fields of natural sciences, and his library had to become a basis and corner stone of the scientific station built by him. At the closeof his days T.I. Vyazemsky donated the station and his library to the Kh.S. Ledentsov Society. On thebasis of the analysis of archival materials and references little-known pages of the T.I. Vyasemsky`sbiography are determined.

A.F. SLUDSKY AND THE T.I. VYASEMSKY KARADAG SCIENTIFIC STATION IN 1917

D.K. Mikhalenok

In 1917 due to well-known political events in Russia the work of T.I. Vyazemsky KaradagScientific Station was seriously endangered. Nevertheless, the scientific research was being carriedby efforts of a few guest scientists, as well as A.F. Sludsky, the Chief of the station, and hisassistant V.N. Vuchetich. The first edition of Proceedings of the Karadag Scientific Station wasissued, which made it possible for the world scientific community to learn about the Station. However, under the pressure of critical social conditions A.F. Sludsky had to decide betweenMoscow and Karadag. For the purpose of saving the Station, he chose to stay at the Karadag. Themotives of such a complicated decision are described in his letters to A.P. Pavlov. Archival dataanalysis reveals new pages of the history of the Karadag Scientific Station.

Our aim was creation of inexpensive, simple in application submerged self-contained videorecordingdevice and verification of its efficiency in the mode of test using. Our videorecording device consists offollowing elements: leakproof container (metallic cylinder as high as 200 mm with internal diameter125 mm, closed both-side by glass lids 185 × 185 × 25 mm), motor-car Full HD (1080p) videorecorderwith corner of review 130о, with a regular memory card, battery 12 V with capacity 7.5 AH, andmetallic support for setting device on bottom. Testing of the videorecording device showed itsefficiency for the count of pelagic fishes of greater part of size spectrum. Quality of image allowed toidentify species belonging of fishes getting in eyeshot. The count of bottom associated fishes is lesseffective. Pisces do not react on upon the device. The got video information makes possible both directcount of quantity and having notion about behavior reactions of fishes in a natural for them habitat.Tested possibilities of monitoring of fishes with our videorecording device show perspectives of itsapplication for count of littoral fishes in particular in combination with other methods of count. Thefurther improvement of device for expansion of its functionality looks perspective.

MODERN CONDITION OF THE RARE ORNITHOFAUNA OF KARADAGSKY RESERVE

Beskaravayny M.M.

Modern array of species of rare component of the Karadag reserve ornithofauna and condition ofspecies included into the Red Data Books of the RF and Crimea is considered. Research have beenconducted at the protected area and sea aquatorium as well as kilometre zone around them. Bothnew (after 2005) and the published data are analysed.Wide spectrum of nesting and forage biotopes are present at the reserve, that is why the reserve isvery important for rare bird species support. 61 rare species are noted, trophic and (or) topicalconnection with reserve territory and water area is established for 45. 9 (probably 10) species arenesting here including 7 that nesting on rocky biotopes. Aquila heliaca, Haliaetus albicilla, andCoracias garrulus were nesting in the reserve earlier but not anymore. In XXI century occurrenceof Buteo rufinus and re-nesting of Gyps fulvus are indicated; increasing of number of Falcocherrug, Falco peregrines, and Phalacrocorax aristotelis, as well as decreasing of number ofColumba livia are noted. 23 species are wintering including 9 that are wintering regularly: Gaviaarctica, Phalacrocorax aristotelis, Mergus serrator, Columba livia and Regulus regulus are usualhere. Aegypius monachus and Gyps fulvus are regular visitors. Tadorna ferruginea and Larusichthyaetus are wintering only while cold is extreme. It is indicated migration of 49 species – 37 inspring and 26 in autumn, Gavia arctica, Ardeola ralloides, Crex crex, Actitis hypoleucos, Larusfuscus, Streptopelia turtur, Alcedo atthis and Regulus regulus – regularly. About 11 species arewandering in warm season.

DOCTOR OF MEDICINE TERENTIY I. VYAZEMSKY, THE ASSISTANTPROFESSOR OF THE MOSCOW IMPERIAL UNIVERSITY

Kostenko N.S.

This year we celebrate 160th anniversary of T.I. Vyazemsky, whose activities were associatedwith Imperial Moscow University. Utterly devoted to science, Vyazemsky – a scholar, publicfigure, bibliophile and historian of medicine – was one of the first Russian researchers of theinfluence of weak electricity on animals and plants. He was one of the founders of the Club ofActivists Against School Alcoholism and the anti-alcohol museum in Moscow. He was one ofthe editors of the magazine In the Struggle for Sobriety. Vyazemsky created an extensivebibliography of scientific publications on the effects of alcohol on the human body, including1153 works, gave public lectures about the danger of alcoholism. He was the author of severalpublications on the history of science and education in Russia (the history of MoscowUniversity and biographies of many Moscow university professors). Vyazemsky collected aunique scientific library of about 40,000 volumes. Vyazemsky together with Professor of theImperial Moscow University L.Z. Morokhovets created the Karadag Scientific Station inCrimea. In 1914, the Karadag Scientific Station was named after T. I. Vyazemsky – but in2015, after a long hiatus, the name of its creator and first head – was returned.

TO THE STUDY OF THE SCOLIID FAUNA (HYMENOPTERA, SCOLIIDAE)OF THE CRIMEAN PENINSULA

Shorenko K.I.

The article supplements information on the distribution of eight species of scoliid wasps, inhabited theterritory of the Crimean Peninsula. Megascolia maculata, C. quinquecincta, and S. fuciformis have thegreatest abundance and distribution in the Crimea. The group with lower abundance includes S. hirta, S.sexmaculata, and C. sexmaculata. Scolia fallax, S. galbula, and C. klugii are rare for the region. Thespecies C. klugii known in the Crimea by just a one female is absent in the newly studied samples. Theincreasing of the number of males in the collections, in comparison with the number of females, indirectlyshows the periods of the mating. This occurs in the second and the third decades of July in the majority ofthe Crimean species. At the same time a high number of males in the collections, in comparison with thenumber of females, was recorded in June for S. fuciformis, and in May for M. maculata. Analysis of theold collections of scoliid wasps showed poor knowledge of many geographical regions of the peninsula inrespect of scoliid fauna. In our opinion the study of intraspecific variability and distribution of species inthe Crimea is perspective for a further research.

MACROZOOBENTHOS IN THE ZONE PSEUDOLITTORAL OF THE CRIMEARESERVES

Kopiy V. G.

The study is based on material collected in areas mediolittoral Karadag (July 2008), Kazantip,Opuksky (August 2013), "Cape Martian" (August 2014) natural reserves. Taxonomic and speciescomposition of macrozoobenthos mediolittoral Crimean reserves is presented and the dominantspecies are described based on generalization of obtained data. A comparative analysis ofquantitative parameters of macrozoobenthos in the studied areas was made. The horizontaldistribution of animals in relation to the water's edge and the trophic structure ofmacrozoobenthos communities of the zone of mediolittoral Crimean reserves was nvestigated.Key words: macrozoobenthos, mediolittoral, Crimea reserves, Black Sea.

HYDROLOGICAL-HYDROCHEMICAL AND HYDROBIOLOGICAL RESEARCHON KARADAG SEASIDE DURING THE WARM SEASON OF 2016

Kovrigina N.P., Lisitskaya E.V., Pospelova N.V., Troshchenko O.A., Eremin I.Y.

The results of comprehensive research conducted in May and September 2016 in the coastal waters of  theKaradag and Koktebel Bay were given. These were presented data on the thermohaline structure of waters, hydrochemical parameters (dissolved oxygen, oxidation, BOD5 and key nutrients), abundance and biomass ofphytoplankton and meroplankton. It was shown that the thermohaline structure directly affects the distributionof hydrochemical and hydrobiological indicators. The presence of the Azov Sea water on the surface and thesubaqual waters in the bottom layer of specified aquatic area were noted. It was determined the influence ofdomestic wastewater of settlements Koktebel and Kurortnoe on the distribution of hydrological andhydrochemical fields as well as on the state of phytoplankton and meroplankton. Comparison of the content oforganic matter and the number of meroplankton that we obtained at the beginning of studies (2004) with data2016 was carried out. It was demonstrated a correlation between the values of the total abundance and biomassof phytoplankton and nutrients.
